What is an ERC?
This stands for Employment Resource Centre. These centres are operated by a number of independent organizations in the Lower Mainland and act as centralized program referral and information centres.

What is a Case Manager?
A Case Manager is an employment specialist who works with you to determine the most appropriate type of program to access. He/she will meet with you to conduct a brief assessment of your work history and employment goals, then assist you in building a plan towards that objective. A Case Manager's referral is a required step to enter all of the programs listed on the YES site.

Why do I need a referral?
Even if you have a particular program in mind, a Case Manager will help you determine if it's the BEST option for you! He/she will have all the latest information on available opportunities including details on eligibility and start dates. Remember, the Case Manager's role is to work WITH YOU to make sure your career plan is on the right track!

How do I choose a Case Manager?
Many people choose to access an ERC that is located in their own neighbourhood, or close to the program they are wanting to attend. Some people may want to choose a service that is specifically focused on a particular segment of the population (Services for Youth, People with Disabilities, or Immigrants). Accessing an ERC is designed to be flexible in order accommodate the needs of the job seeker - the choice is up to you!

Does this service cost anything?
No! Services are available to anyone who is unemployed or under-employed (working less than 20 hours per week) and legally entitled to work in Canada. Some services at an ERC are even available if you are employed. All programs are also available at no cost to the individual.

Do I need to book an appointment or can I just show up?
Most organizations appreciate a telephone call first so they can give you some information about them and let you know the hours of operations. For ERCs you will need to book you an appointment to meet with a Case Manager. The resource rooms associated with most of the ERCs are usually on a first come first serve basis. For other programs, most have an information session process, either in a group setting at a specific time or individually, which will require an appointment.
